Jim Record

James M. Record, MD, JD, FACP has served as Dean for the Elson S. Floyd College of Medicine since October 1, 2023, following a yearlong interim appointment. Before assuming this role, Dr. Record served as the College of Medicine Vice Dean for GME, CME and Partnerships. He played an integral role in the development and launch of the Internal Medicine Residency Program in Everett, Family Medicine Residency Program in Pullman, and Pediatric Residency Program in Spokane. Trained as a primary care internal medicine physician and attorney, he brings more than 25 years of experience in medicine and academia, including as Dean of the Chicago Medical School and Provost and Chief Academic Officer of Ross University School of Medicine. In addition, he has held multiple prior leadership positions in undergraduate and graduate medical education at the Chicago Medical School, St. Joseph’s Healthcare System, New York Medical College, and the Mount Sinai School of Medicine.

Dr. Record is a magna cum laude graduate of Bowdoin College with a bachelor of arts in biochemistry and sociology. After receiving his medical degree from the University of Massachusetts Medical School, he completed residency training in general internal medicine at Brown University School of Medicine/Rhode Island Hospital in Providence, RI, and board certification from the American Board of Internal Medicine. Later, he graduated from Rutgers University School of Law with a juris doctorate. He is a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society and a Fellow of the American College of Physicians. Dr. Record has a wife, an internal medicine physician whom he was fortunate to meet during their residency training, and two children, one of whom is a fourth-year medical student and another who is a psychology faculty member.
