Jill McCluskey

Jill McCluskey is a Regents Professor at Washington State University and Director of the School of Economic Sciences, which is a combined academic unit that includes both Agricultural Economics and Economics. A WSU Benefactor, she joined the WSU faculty directly after completing her PhD at UC Berkeley in 1998. Her research focuses on product quality and reputation, food labeling and standards, food access, consumer preferences for new technology, and women in STEM. An award-winning researcher, she is widely published and cited with an h-index of 47. Her research has been funded by private foundations, NSF, and the USDA. An award-winning mentor, she has served as major professor to 49 Ph.D. graduates. She is the Chair of the Board on Agricultural and Natural Resources of the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine, and on the Executive Board of the International Association of Agricultural Economists. She is a past Editor of the American Journal of Agricultural Economics. She is past President and Fellow of the Agricultural and Applied Economics Association and Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) and two other agricultural economics professional associations. She became a member of the Washington State Academies of Sciences in 2016 and was selected as the alumna of the year in UC Berkeley’s Department of Agricultural and Resource Economics in 2022. She founded the Lauren McCluskey Foundation in honor of her daughter. Her husband Matthew McCluskey is a WSU Physics Professor.
